If you live near a showing, go see this documentary with as many of your friends as possible. And tell everyone else about it.
Check it out. This is a link to give you the show times for San Diego, but the page contains links for the other cities. Human Trafficking is a huge, dark, and growing issue. And it’s much closer to home than you might think. Global issue, yes. Local issue, that too. Russia, La Costa, New York, soccermomsuburbia, busttlingcorporatedowntown, everywhere.
Learn about it. Do what you can.
I would go deeper into explaining why I thought the film was so great, but you need to see it for yourself. amazing live performances, important facts on the issue, and first hand accounts of why this is such a heartbreaking epidemic problem. Thank you Justin Dillon for showing how making music can make the world a different place.
I think I’m sticking to bullet points for this entry, sound good? good.
*I moved! I’m no longer a live in care giver. It was a challenging process, since I’m friends with the girl I was taking care of. It was a much needed change, and I’m looking forward to this next chapter. Although I’m hoping the internet issues work themselves out soon. Haven’t had internet at home for over a week. No bueno.
*I’m feeling a little creatively frustrated, and stuck in a rut. I want to move forward, to do more, to be challenged. I’m not sure what that looks like yet, but I hope I continue feeling uncomfortable until I do something more.
*I keep thinking more and more about adoption, and how that will work into my future. I’m excited to see the crazy things God does in my life and the kind of family I will some day have!
*So many of my friends, myself included, are in a weird transition of some sort. It’s an odd life stage, everything is sort of just up in the air.
*I went to a totally stunning concert friday night. Iron&Wine and The Swell Season (if you haven’t seen the movie “Once” you must. yes, must!). Outdoor ampitheater, beautiful talent, love it. Both were amazing live. Lovely. And it was so needed. I feel weird when I go too long without some live music.
*Copeland has a new release out next week. SO excited to have that in my hands soon!
*Anberlin has a new one out now, SO excited to have that in my hands when I get paid tomorrow!
*I’ve updated my flickr, feel free to wander over and check it out.
*While moving, I dropped my lap top onto my toe. Ouch. Double Ouch. But both my toe and my computer have both recovered, thank you for your concern.
*Money can be such a stress-pit. But it’s only money, don’t let it drag you too far down.
*After some time off because of the season and the way the company works, I’m back at work full time. Back to being a grown up. Also, while I did accomplish a lot while I was off, I also feel like I wasted a lot of that time. I could have done so much more. Oh well, leason learned.
That’s all folks. Hope you’re finding some new music to stir your soul lately, I think it’s vital.
I bought Brooke Fraser’s album “Albertine” 2 days ago. And it’s pretty much been on repeat in my Itunes and in my head.
The title track has really got my brain going.
“Now that I have seen, I am responsible. Faith without deeds is dead.”
The song is inspired by her trip to Rwanda, and a girl she met whose story she promised to share.
Musically and lyrically it sticks with me. It’s making me think, it’s making me remember.
See/hear for yourself:
And the entire album is solid. “C.S Lewis Song” is another of my favorites so far. And, by the way, it was only like 6 bucks on Itunes for a full length. And it’s a full length full of goodness. I recommend it!
(Also, can you tell I like this whole “share a video” idea?)
The past few days have been nice days. Sometimes in such a crazy world, it’s rare to have a good week. But this week was a nice one.
I’m excited for new music! Jon Foreman’s final seasonal EP “Summer” is out, and I love it! I’m a little sad that the process has come to an end though, it was great for my never satisfiable music appetite! And Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida” comes out on tuesday! Which is beyond exciting. They’re doing a US tour…but I doubt I’ll be able to make it to a show.
I also finally set up a Flickr account for myself! Feel free to cruise on over and take a looksie: www.flickr.com/photos/palomalisa
And I should be all signed up for the workshop once they get my check. I feel so productive and wonderful. It’s amazing how taking steps towards what you want to do, no matter how small the steps, makes you feel so much better about it all!
I’d encourage all of you to do the same. If there’s something you want…try and go for it. Pray about it and then take the baby steps through the doors that open up. It’s a little scary, but that’s where trust comes in. And God’s plans for our lives are FAR beyond what we can even imagine. So why not trust in someone who is ALWAYS looking out for our best interest!?
Happy friday. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Do something that makes you a little nervous. It’ll be good for you.
It is amazingly windy here today, which is rarely the case. I actually had trouble keeping my car door open long enough to put all my stuff in. It’s kind of raining, and definately chilly. Just how I like it. Scratch that, now it’s fully raining too. I love working next to a floor to ceiling window!
I’m all cozy in a sweatshirt and jeans. I love that my job is so relaxed.
The only downside to weather like this is that is makes me just want to curl up with a blankie and watch a good movie or read a good book, not work. That, and the fact that I yet again seem to be fighting off some germies. Hope they leave soon, I’m not in the mood for company.
Seriously, these guys are the nicest bunch o’singers and strummers and drum-hitters ever. And they put on a mean live performance. And the show is cheap…So, no excuses, go, and bring your buddies.
Memories.
They’re weird.
I can be completely stopped in my tracks, physical or mental, by simply hearing the beginning of a song. It takes me straight back to the emotions connected to that song. Amazing how our brains work, don’t you think?
I’m slightly awestruck at the rush of visual memories and emotions sparked by the song that just came up on my Itunes.
That’s all.
Hope your memories are pleasant today, or that atleast you remember the growth that comes out of the not so pleasant ones.
The Vedera/The Myriad/Eisley show was almost perfect. Vedera’s tiny little lead singer blew everyone away with her huge, powerful voice. The Myriad once again proved themselves to be a super solid band, they’re just freakin’ awesome. Seriously. Freakin’ Awesome! Like an Awesome blossom without the onion, and with more of the awesome, and musical ability instead of grease. You can see them all over MTV lately, and their videos are on Youtube, and one of them wrote a book, it sounds like a great read, I’ll let you all know once I’m reading it.
Anyways, check both of those bands out, you’ll be glad you did.
Eisley was an interesting experience. I’ve seen them before, and I own all the records, so I know they’re a good group, and I like them. But Friday night was off. I think the sound guys just had all of the levels wrong and everything was just TOO LOUD so it turned into noise instead of music. That and the set was way long. It’s sad though, ’cause like I said, I like ‘em! Hopefully people wont judge them completely on that night. And they brought their “Crister Sisty”, as one of them said after too many skittles, meaning “Sister Christy” up to sing a verse, and that was adorable. I guess she’s the youngest and the only one not (yet?) in the band…so that was cool, she had a nice voice too.
Ok, that should be a good enough chunk of words and links for now! Support those bands, enjoy their great music, and drink some water, it’s darn hot today!
Tonight’s gunna be good. Real good.
Live music, and music in general, is such a necessity to me. Without it, I think I would shrivel up like a raisin…only I wouldn’t be like a California Raisin(remember those!?), I would just be a plain ol’ sad raisin. My favorite is when you can feel the bass in your chest, it’s like you have a bigger heartbeat for the time being…
I’m excited for the combination of artists tonight…Eisley was fantastic when I saw them last summer…and The Myriad, well, they kick butt. And it’s interesting to see/hear a band you heard for the first time a few months ago with videos and performance clips on MTV. yep, they’re good! The other band, Vedera, I’ve never heard of…so we shall see.
I highly recommend spilling some music into your ears today, it’ll make it a better day, I promise! New music is always good too, so check out the links above or the ones to the right…>>>>>>>>>>>
They’re all amazing. It’s true. But, hear for yourselves! I dare you!
We (my roomate, D, and I) have a new roomate, we’ll call her C. And C is wonderful, a total answer to prayer on so many levels!
So last night the three of us went to C’s church because Evan Wickham was leading worship and giving a short message. We figured it was a great time to see what her church is like and I’d heard that Evan was amazing. It must be genetic with that bunch, because he was wonderful.
It was so refreshing to be a part of a smaller, and totally spirit-filled worship time. Evan is definately a gifted worship leader and apparently a gifted speaker as well.
He spoke about being open to being distracted by Jesus. While being distracted generally has a negative connotation, in this case it is something to go with. We tend to get so caught up in our routines of day to day life that sometimes we forget to “stop and smell the flowers”, so to speak. I know this is true for me. I get so busy and have so many things I need to do, that I forget to just sit at His feet and enjoy His presence.
Evan gave 3 scriptures to back it up:
Luke 17-
The Leper who was on his way to fulfill a task asked of him by Jesus, but who stopped to be with Jesus and was then healed because of his faith.
John 4:23-30-
The woman at the well.
She is sent to fetch water for the men in her town…Jesus offers her a water that will leave her fulfilled and asks her to return and tell of this water. She gets distracted by Jesus and abandons her task to be with him, and to do as he asks.
She does this *in spite of the fear of man* (that statement probably strikes a chord with many of us!).
Romans 11:33-
Paul is in the middle of theological lessons and gets distracted by the power and glory and wisdom of God and switches speaking styles and focus…then He begs of his brothers to live as sacrifice to God.
They all get distracted FROM their task BY the reason why we live and have freedom, JESUS!
wow.
When was the last time I let myself just stop and get caught up in Jesus’ love for me. Just sit at His feet and be.
Evan made a good point, even if you are reading your bible and you are so into it and feeling His presence but you might be late to your job/appointment/whatever you are “supposed” to do, to just let yourself be with Jesus in that time. The example he gave hit me too… He was talking about reading the bible with his son, and saying to him, “you know what, you might be a little bit late to school…but I feel like we should read this next chapter too.” The picture of a father, putting the Lord first, and showing his son what that looks like…that’s how it should be!
So what if your routine has to shift a little, or a lot, this is GOD we’re talking about. The God that speaks things into being, the God that raises people from the dead, the God that sent His only Son to die so that we may live abundantly. Yet we think our TV show is more important than reading His word!?
What holds the most importance in your daily life?
Of course, this isn’t reason to become irresponsible in life, because we are also called to be good stewards of what we have been given. But let yourself be with Him.That’s what matters to Him most. That’s what should matter to us most.
It rocked my mental/spritual world. Hope you’re rocking too!
Oh, and the music…that was amazing! But that’s another story…but check him out and buy his CD….you can get it from his site or on Itunes, and there’s another one in the making so..get ready!
I just got a song for free. It’s by a little band, you may have heard of them before. They’re called “Coldplay”….
Yep. That’s right. You too can get Coldplay’s new song “Violet Hill” for $0.00 (free). Their newest bunch o’ goodness is set to be released June 17th and this is only an appetizer. But free food is good. And free music just might be better than free food.
Super easy…super good. I really like the beat and the melodies. Go for it. You’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain!
I'm just a young lady, living life, trying to be a great photographer and a nice person who lives like someone who knows Jesus. The thoughts that fill these pages are most likely related to the process of finding balance between it all.
